About Hunger

Each month, tens of thousands of low-income Alameda County residents cannot afford well-balanced meals for themselves and their families. Many never imagined they would need to request food assistance, but barren cupboards and empty pockets have led them to local soup kitchens and food pantries.
-- Hunger: The Faces & Facts (2005)

More people face this experience each year. As the cost of living increases and government safety net programs weaken, the demand for emergency food continues to climb.

Help End Hunger

In addition to food distribution to 300 community based organizations, the Alameda County Community Food Bank educates the general public and policymakers about hunger and poverty in Alameda County. The Food Bank encourages community members to get involved in the fight against hunger. Through education and advocacy the Food Bank continues to gain momentum in our efforts to create a hunger-free and healthy community . . . and we need your help!

The Food Bank has resources to educate groups about hunger and poverty. Learn more about our hunger education presentations and resources for teachers and educators.
