Organize
Empower Change. Build Community. Transform Systems
At Alameda County Community Food Bank (ACCFB), we believe that hunger is solvable. But solving hunger requires more than just giving out food—it requires addressing the root causes of food insecurity: poverty, racism, and systems of oppression. The Food Justice Organizing Task Force is a key part of our movement to create a world where everyone has access to nourishing food and the power to influence the systems that affect their lives.
WHY ORGANIZING
As we transition to a food justice model, community organizing is essential. Temporary relief isn’t enough; lasting change requires addressing systemic barriers that keep people hungry. Community Organizing builds local power, challenges inequalities, and advocates for sustainable policies.
The traditional charity-based approach only provides temporary relief. To achieve lasting change, we need to address the structural and systemic barriers that keep people hungry and in poverty. Organizing allows us to build power from within communities, challenging the inequalities of the food system and advocating for policies that create sustainable solutions.
By organizing, we bring people together to fight for real, long-term change. We equip community members with the skills to take action, advocate for themselves, and demand the systems they deserve. Through the Food Justice Organizing Task Force, we are building a movement that empowers individuals and communities to take charge of their futures and fight for food justice for all.
GET INVOLVED: JOIN THE MOVEMENT!
The Food Justice Organizing Task Force is made up of everyday people like you—volunteers, students, immigrants, food assistance recipients, and community leaders—who are dedicated to ending hunger and advancing food justice. By joining the Task Force, you will:
- Build Skills: Gain leadership development, organizing, and advocacy skills.
- Plan and Take Action: Collaborate with others to carry out actions that drive change.
- Grow the Movement: Recruit new activists and help expand the reach of our work.
Together, we will challenge the systems that perpetuate food insecurity, poverty, and racism. By joining the Food Justice Organizing Task Force, you will be part of a community of like-minded individuals who are committed to taking action and creating systemic change.
OUR VISION: BUILDING FOOD JUSTICE LEADERS

We are launching this task force to train the next generation of food justice leaders and organizers. Our goal is to recruit and train people from communities most impacted by hunger and inequity—clients, volunteers, immigrants, tenants, students, and partner organizations—in food justice education, community organizing, policy advocacy, and leadership development. We believe everyone has a role to play in shaping a fair and just food system.
WHAT WE DO: ORGANIZING FOR SYTEMIC CHANGE
Our approach goes beyond simply providing food. The Food Justice Organizing Task Force is dedicated to:
- Community Organizing: Empowering individuals and communities to advocate for themselves and challenge the systemic barriers that perpetuate hunger.
- Policy Advocacy: Fighting for policies that address the root causes of hunger and poverty, from local government action to state and federal legislation.
- Leadership Development: Training new activists to lead organizing efforts, build coalitions, and create positive, lasting change in their communities.
- Coalition Building: Partnering with grassroots organizations, immigrant rights groups, tenant rights advocates, and others who are working to dismantle systems of oppression.
WHY FOOD JUSTICE?
For us, food justice means more than just access to food. It is the right of all individuals and communities to access, produce, and consume nourishing food, regardless of race, class, gender, or other social factors. Food justice is about transforming food systems to eliminate inequalities, promote sustainability, and empower communities to lead change—moving beyond traditional charity-based models.
